Tell It To Me Tuesday
Crosspost from Not The Life I Pictured
So, this week I am going to participate in Janet's "Tell It To Me Tuesday". She just took this global so here goes my TITMT post!
She asks this week:
What are some songs you can listen to over and over?
And if you're up for the challenge, what do you think it is about these songs that makes them so special?
This is a hard one for me because I am so fickle. I can think of a few though that have stood the test of time. (I am going to answer why these songs are so special to ME.)
1. "I Can't Smile Without You" by Barry Manilow-I know, I know. I am serious. This song makes me cry like a baby everytime I hear it because it reminds me of my mom. She used to love Barry so I was raised on Barry, Hall and Oates and show tunes. Plus, she used to sing it to me. I am getting teary eyed just thinking about it now...
2. "Maneater" by Hall and Oates-Pretty much in the same vein as the previous song, except my mom didn't sing it to me. Although I did grow up to be a "Maneater", it was not encouraged by my mother;-).
3. "Love Bites" by Def Leppard-I was child in the 80s and by the time I hit teens where I was allowed to listen to regular radio(only Christian music or lite stuff until I was 13). This meant that I did not listen to the radio until 1988. 1988 was when this song was released and I, like the rest of America, couldn't get enough of it. It reminds me of my 7th grade dance where the most popular boy in my elementary danced with me the whole time. Unfortunately for him, he was forced into jr high school obscurity since other boys that came from other elementary schools were cuter so it wasn't as big of a deal to me as it should have been. The song though, is still a big deal.
4. "Welcome to The Jungle" by Guns and Roses-Appetite For Destruction was the first "tape" I bought with my own money that wasn't a Christian group. I had to hide it from my parents. I didn't hide it well enough. They found it shortly after I got it and hid it from me until I was 15, by then all I could stand to listen to was "Welcome to the Jungle". I love this song. How can you forget Axl Rose(heroin skinny with big 80s hair and requisite leather pants): "Do you know where you are? You're in the jungle baby and you're gonna diiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee...."
5. "I Have Dreamed" The King and I and Frank Sinatra-Ok, this one definitely needs an explanation so Jason doesn't freak out. This song is very special to me for a few reasons. One, The King and I was the first show that I had a big part in. I was so off the wall happy about it, I get misty even thinking about how truly excited I was. Two is that I sang this song with "Wolf" who played my forbidden lover, who later on became friend/boyfriend/friend with benefits/general person to love at. The feelings I had during that song were the first strong feelings of admiration for someone and crazy excitement that people were looking at me that I can remember as a young kid. They were nice feelings.
6. "I Go To Extremes" by Billy Joel-because I do and it's Billy Joel! Truthfully, I can listen to any song of his over and over again.
7. "Alive" by Pearl Jam-I love the energy to this song and it always reminds of my high school friends.
8. "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd- I went to a Pink Floyd concert my freshman year of college and it was the best concert I have ever been to. This song is sometimes how I would like to feel.
9. "Boombastic" by Shaggy-it completely reminds me of fraternity house basements and dancing with my friends. This was before girl on girl action was cool to girls so while we didn't make out to it, we did have a really good time. It's funny, I don't even remember boys being there...
10. "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning) by Vertical Horizon-This song totally reminds me of Jason because, well, it's true and it came out around the time we started dating. I loves me some Jason so I get a little verklempt when I hear this.
I'll stop at 10 because I could go on and on and on...I guess I am not as fickle as I thought.
